On July 26, 2009 three Tiger helicopters were flown into Kabul airport by Antonov 124 heavy cargo aircraft. They will reinforce the coalition air component, and notably the French helicopter force, comprised of three Caracal and three Gazelle “Viviane” which are already operating as part of the Kabul helicopter detachment.

The Tigre HAP (Hélicoptère d'Appui et de Protection, Support and Protection Helicopter) will be used for armed reconnaissance, fire support and support missions for coalition troops.

The Tigers will be operated by the 5th Combat Helicopter Regiment, stationed in Pau, south-western France.

This is the first time that Tiger is deployed in a combat zone.
