IDEF, ANKARA, Turkey --- Thales has been selected by Airbus Military to supply the Enhanced Vision System (EVS) for the A400M military transport aircraft.
Linked to the aircraft’s head-up display (HUD), the EVS system will use an infrared camera to assist pilots during takeoff, approach, landing and taxiing phases, even in harsh climatic conditions. During tactical flight, it will also offer extended pattern recognition, detection and surveillance capabilities.
Drawing on Thales’ extensive experience in forward-looking infrared (FLIR) systems for military aircraft, the EVS system will offer all-digital image-processing capabilities, from sensor to projection on the pilot’s liquid-crystal head-up display. It will deliver levels of performance never previously achieved with this type of system, as well as significant weight savings.
In addition to the A400M, the HUD-based EVS system from Thales is designed to meet the most demanding requirements for regional, business and commercial aircraft.
Thales is a leading international electronics and systems group serving defence, aerospace, security and services markets. The Group employs 60,000 people throughout the world and generated revenues of 10.3 billion euros in 2004.
