Dassault Aviation has delivered the last of 15 Mirage 2000-5 Mk. II combat aircraft to the Hellenic Air Force.

These aircraft were ordered in 2000. They are the last of 601 Mirage 2000 produced by our company and operated by nine air forces.

This event has been highlighted by an official ceremony held today, Friday November 23rd, at Tanagra Air Base, Greece.

Mr. Hervé Morin, French Defense Minister, and General Abrial, Chief of Staff of the French Air Force, were attending the ceremony at the invitation of their Greek opposite numbers.

The Mirage 2000-5 programme continues with the modernization of the Mirage 2000 EGM/BGM of the Hellenic Air Force performed in cooperation with Hellenic Aerospace Industry.

Excerpt of Speech by Dassault Aviation CEP Charles Edelstenne:

For more than thirty years, DASSAULT AVIATION has been very proud to be one of the favourite supplier of the Hellenic Air Force

It started in 1974, with the signature of the contract for the supply of 40 aircraft MIRAGE F 1, followed ten years after with the choice of the MIRAGE 2000 E. The MIRAGE 2000-5 selected at the end of the 90's is officially delivered today.

This aircraft ,one of the most advanced fighter currently in operation, will play a major role in the defence of your country. It offers the Hellenic Air Force multi target/multi shoot capabilities with the MICA Air-to-Air missile as well as a strong strategic capacity with the SCALP long range stand-off missile.

But the Mirage 2000-5 is not only a new formidable weapon for the Hellenic Air Force, it is also a successful industrial cooperation. Fifteen brand new aircraft have been manufactured in France while the retrofit of ten existing MIRAGE 2000 E into MIRAGE 2000-5 is carried out locally by our main partner in Greece: Hellenic Aerospace Industry.

Let me take this opportunity to congratulate HAI, for the excellence of the job they are performing. Since the very beginning of our cooperation, we have built a real industrial partnership, from the offset programs up to the significant works to transform the legacy MIRAGE 2000 into the 2000-5.

This fruitful relationship eventually led, two years ago, to the participation in the nEUROn project. This represents another important step forward giving HAI the full member status in the club of the leading European Industry Team. No doubt HAI will play its role in this future, built up with Dassault Aviation.

Considering the incremental 10 years logic which has led from the Mirage Fl to the Mirage 2000-5 we envisage as the next milestone in our relationship the new generation Rafale aircraft.

As you probably know, the Omnirole RAFALE has been declared operational in the French Air Force last year and has since been deployed in Afghanistan, where it has successfully flown and delivered Air to Ground armaments in a real war environment. It is a new, fully mature and combat proven aircraft that GIE RAFALE is now in a position to propose to Greece.

As for the Mirage 2000-5 , the Rafale project will be the backbone for a larger cooperation with local industry, HA! of course at a main seat, but also smaller companies that will take advantage of this high technology system to develop their skills and know-how.
