WILMINGTON, Mass. --- Textron Systems announced today it has been awarded a $115M contract for the system design and development phase of the Intelligent Munitions System (IMS) program by the U.S. Army Project Manager, Close Combat Systems under the Program Executive Officer for Ammunition at Picatinny, New Jersey. Textron Systems is a Textron Inc. company.
A core component of the Army's Future Combat System initiative, IMS is a revolutionary networked sensor and munition system that brings unprecedented situational awareness and terrain control to the battlefield.

Low-rate initial production of IMS is scheduled to start in 2008; delivery is scheduled for 2010. Textron Systems' teaming partners include Northrop Grumman (Carson, CA), ITT Industries (Clifton, NJ) and BAE Systems (Merrimack, NH).
