Cubic Corporation Receives Potential $468 Million Contract to Supply Mission Support to U.S. Army Joint Readiness Training Center

SAN DIEGO, CA. --- Cubic Corporation will continue to provide highly realistic pre-deployment training to U.S. troops after winning a competitive contract with a potential ceiling value of $468 million. Cubic, the incumbent mission support contractor for the U.S. Army's Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) at Fort Polk, Louisiana, recently received a new contract for one base year with nine renewable option years. The new contract is scheduled to begin in July 2007.

Cubic Applications, Inc. (CAI) is the principal mission support services division of Cubic Corporation. It currently supplies full-spectrum mission support services at both Fort Polk and Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas. The JRTC is the U.S. Army's premier Combat Training Center, providing advanced collective training for a wide variety of units, including Brigade Combat Teams and Special Forces Operational Detachments. These units include conventional airborne, air assault, light infantry, mechanized infantry and armored units, as well as Special Operations Forces from all service components. Units training at JRTC include active-duty, reserve and National Guard. Forces from other nations also participate in JRTC rotational training exercises.

The current contract with JRTC, awarded in 2001, is valued at close to $375 million. The new contract will increase support levels in the areas of Role Play, Battlefield Effects, Tactical Engagement Systems Support and the Exercise Support Group, which provides support to rotational training units in the areas of transportation, sustainment supplies, live fire support and air-delivered resupply.

CAI's job as JRTC Mission Support Contractor is to assist the JRTC in fully integrating all participants into rotational exercises via scenarios involving multinational operations. Standard rotational training exercises last 14 days and require 24/7 contractor support. However, since November 2003, JRTC has conducted numerous 21-day mission rehearsal exercises (MREs) for units scheduled to deployment to both Iraq and Afghanistan. These highly realistic exercises include situational training, live fire and force-on-force exercises. MRE support typically includes expanded Role Play, technical help with MILES combat training instrumentation, Battlefield Effects, Video and Cultural Role Players (Foreign Language Speakers) for added realism.

CAI currently employs approximately 1,500 full-time and part-time employees to support the JRTC. The economic effect is multiplied many times in the western Louisiana region where the JRTC is located.
