The Pentagon organized a media briefing on depleted uranium on March 14. In the words of one DoD official, the goal was to ensure that “as we go forward, and if there is a conflict in Iraq, I think it's important for everybody to have a good understanding of depleted uranium, because there is an awful lot of misinformation out there about depleted uranium.†The briefing was conducted by Col. James Naughton, U.S. Army Materiel Command; also participating was Dr. Michael Kilpatrick, of the Army’s Deployment Health Support Directorate.
