US Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology Edward C. Pete" Aldridge, discussed several DoD procurement programs during a May 2 roundtable with reporters at the Pentagon. The discussion centered on several controversial weapon programs, such as the Crusader self-propelled howitzer, the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor, the F-22 Raptor fighter and the Comanche helicopter. Also discussed were several programs which have experienced cost over-runs of 15% or more, and thus face major review and possibly even cancellation according to "Nunn-McCurdy" regulations. Click here for a transcript of the media roundtable on the Pentagon website (in .html format). This page also includes an explanation of the Nunn-McCurdy certification system, as well as related cost reports for six major procurement programs. -ends-
