 The participation of nations in the ISAF was formalised through the signing, in London, of a Memoranda Of Understanding (10 January). This represented the final step in agreeing the structure of the ISAF for its period under UK leadership.
Sixteen countries signed up to provide contingents: Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the UK. Belgium and Bulgaria were also represented at the meeting and are planning to join the Force.
