Special briefing on the V-22 Osprey by Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Martin R. Berndt, commanding general, II Marine Expeditionary Force. Also participating Marine Corps Lt. Col. Bill Wainwright, executive officer, Marine Aircraft Group 26. (at the Pentagon, April 5, 2001) (In a nutshell, the JAG Manual investigation found that The mishap resulted from a hydraulic system failure compounded by a computer software anomaly. The aircrew reacted immediately and correctly to the in-flight emergency, as they were trained to do. We consider them to be without fault in this tragedy."--Editor) Click here for a full transcript of the briefing in html format on the Pentagon's website.  Also on April 5, Bell issued the following statement (unsigned and without attribution): Bell's Response to JAGMAN Report "Bell and Boeing received the JAGMAN report concurrently with the media. It’s premature to comment on the specifics of the report until we’ve had an opportunity to thoroughly review it. While we acknowledge that there are issues that need to be addressed with respect to the V-22, the findings confirm our belief in the merits and benefits of tiltrotor technology. I can assure you that the Bell Boeing team will move swiftly to address any issues raised with respect to the aircraft’s performance, and are committed to making the V-22 Osprey the safest, most reliable and cost effective aircraft in the Department of Defense inventory. With twice the speed and three times the range of any existing helicopter, the V-22 will be a critical and effective aircraft serving the future needs of our armed forces.
