MOSCOW --- The contract for S-400 (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems for China will have been carried out before 2020, Alexander Fomin, director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, has told journalists.

"Something like that," Fomin said when asked if plans provided for the order to be fulfilled before 2020.

A military-diplomatic source had told TASS previously that under the deal clinched in Moscow in September 2014, Russia would supply China with two S-400 regiments before the end of June 2019.

Each regiment-size set of materiel comprises a regimental command post and two missile battalions, each including four launchers. One regiment will be delivered in December 2017 through January 2018 and the other in May through June 2019.

The first regiment’s ammunition will be SAMs organic to the S-300PMU-2 (SA-20B Gargoyle) system, while the second unit may be issued "missiles featuring improved characteristics."
