F-35B Nears SDD Phase Completion

PAX RIVER, VA. --- Peter Wilson completes crosswind creeping short take off and vertical landing (STOVL) testing with BF-1, an F-35B, March 5 at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland. This is BF-1’s final system design and development (SDD) phase flight test with only a few ground test points remaining to close out SDD for BF-1.
In addition to its STOVL capability, the F-35B’s unique combination of stealth, cutting-edge radar, sensor technology and electronic warfare systems brings all the access and lethality capability of a fifth-generation fighter. (Lockheed Martin photo)
F-35 Lightning II, USS Wasp (LHD 1), Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 121

EAST CHINA SEA --- An F-35B Lighting II assigned to the "Green Knights" of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 121 takes off from the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) during flight operations in the Indo-Pacific region.
VMFA-121 is assigned to the Okinawa-based 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU). The Wasp Expeditionary Strike Group is conducting a regional patrol meant to strengthen regional alliances, provide rapid-response capability, and advance the Up-Gunned ESG concept. (US Navy photo)
