Defence Minister’s Statement on the Status of Implementation of Recommendations Contained In Reports of the Standing Committee on Defence

NEW DELHI --- Following is the text of the statement made by Defence Minister Shri A K Antony on the status of implementation of recommendations contained in the 14th, 17th and 18th Reports of the Standing Committee on Defence. :

“I am making this statement on the status of implementation of recommendations contained in the 14th, 17th and 18th Reports of the Standing Committee on Defence (14th Lok Sabha) in pursuance of the direction of the Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha contained in Lok Sabha Bulletin – Part II dated September 01, 2004.

The 14th Report of the Standing Committee on Defence (14th Lok Sabha) relates to Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), the 17th Report relates to ‘In-depth Study and Critical Review of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL)’ and the 18th Report relates to ‘In-depth Study and Critical Review of Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL)’.

The 14th Report was presented to the Lok Sabha on 2.8.2006. The 17th Report was presented on 4.5.2007 and the 18th Report was presented on the 7.5.2007. The Reports were laid in Rajya Sabha on the same day i.e 2.8.2006, 4.5.2007 and 7.5.2007 respectively.

-- Action Taken Statements on the recommendations / observations contained in the 14th Report was sent to the Standing Committee on Defence on 25.6. 2007.

-- Action Taken Statements on the 17th Report were sent on 19.7.2007 and the Action Taken Notes on the 18th Report of the Committee were sent to the Standing Committee on Defence on 10.8.2007.

The present status of implementation of the various recommendations made by the Committee in their 14th, 17th and 18th reports is indicated in the Annexure-I, II and III respectively to my Statement which is laid on the Table of the House.

I would not like to take the valuable time of the House to read out all the contents of these Annexures. I would request that these may be considered as read. (end of excerpt)
