VORONEZH, Russia --- The advanced Russian-made Ilyushin Il-112V military transport plane is planned to perform the first flight in the summer of 2017, the Voronezh Region administration said.

The Voronezh Aircraft Plant (VASO) is the main producer of the Il-112V military transport plane, the administration added.

"VASO has already started building the first prototype. The prototype is expected to perform the first flight in mid-2017," the administration said.

"As VASO CEO Dmitry Prishvin said, the main task of the enterprise is to develop the Il-112V aircraft and produce eight planes of this type annually," the administration added.

As Prishvin said at a meeting with Voronezh Region Governor Alexei Gordeyev, the plant is loaded with orders for years to come.

"By 2020, the enterprise is expected to double its revenues to 20 billion rubles [$306 million] and increase its staff by 20%. There are plans that VASO will produce two Il-96 planes annually from 2019," the administration’s press office quoted Prishvin as saying.

The Il-112V light military transport plane with a cargo-carrying capacity of six tons is designed to replace the Antonov An-24 (Coke) and An-26 (Curl) aircraft.

It was reported earlier that Russia’s Defense Ministry was expected to receive 62 Il-112V planes.

The Il-112V military transport plane is designed to transport and airdrop light military hardware, cargo and military personnel.

In July, VASO delivered an advanced Il-96-300 plane to the Rossiya special air detachment of the Russian Presidential Administrative Directorate.

The plane’s systems and equipment feature only Russian-made components.
