NOVO-OGARYOVO, Russia --- Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the government to submit a new state armament program draft before July 1, 2017 and ensure its continuity with the current program.
"We need to ensure the continuity of the current and a new [armament] program that we will discuss today," Putin said at a meeting on the main parameters of the 2018-2025 state armament program.
"Working on its financial parameters, we need to proceed from the fact that the Armed Forces and other services should be provided with modern weapons and equipment at a relevant level to fully and effectively defend Russia from potential military threats," Putin said.
According to the president, all budgetary commitments and plans in the defense and security sphere should be definitely fulfilled.
Putin ordered to summarize proposals on the new state armament program this year.
"After that I will ask the Government to submit a draft program for approval before July 1, 2017," he added.
According to the president, it is necessary to give a comprehensive assessment of budget spending on the fulfillment of the future state armament program.
