Aussies Outsource Helo Engine Support (June 13)

A multi-million dollar maintenance contract will be signed in Brisbane tomorrow (14th June) for the ADF General Electric T700 engine systems used in Seahawk and Black Hawk helicopters.

The Defence Materiel Organisation will sign the contract with Asia Pacific Aerospace at the contract company's offices in suburban Pinkenba at 11.30 am.

The contract will be managed by the Navy Aviation Systems Program Office, (NASPO) based in Nowra.

Andrew Wood, Director General Rotary Wing Aviation, said today the contract is worth approximately seven million dollars a year or $49 million over the seven year life of the contract.

Mr Wood said Asia Pacific Aerospace will be responsible for all necessary management to provide serviceable engines and modules to operational units.

He said they would be responsible for all deeper level maintenance work including the purchase of breakdown spares, most publication activity, some training of Defence personnel and various aspects of configuration management.

He said the contract will also extend to cover the T700 engines fitted to the Super Seasprite, once they enter service with Navy.

Mr Wood said this contract is a good example of the Defence Materiel Organisation facilitating cooperation between Navy and Army logistics groups.
