Reflectone-Built C-130J Systems Familiarization Trainer Enters Service for Royal Australian Air Force
Reflectone, a British Aerospace company, has today announced that the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) has begun training on a Reflectone-built systems familiarization trainer (SFT) simulating the Lockheed Martin C-130J aircraft.
The C-130J SFT, which meets the specifications of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Level Four flight training device, will be used by the RAAF for classroom training of ground maintenance personnel. The training device will be used primarily for systems familiarization, normal operation, and malfunction identification and troubleshooting.
"We are excited at the prospect of implementing the new C-130J SFT into our training syllabus," said Richard Hogan, public affairs officer for the Royal Australian Air Force. "Training is such a critical piece of our efforts, especially on a new aircraft platform, and this simulator will help give our maintenance crews a solid understanding of the C-130J aircraft."
The Reflectone-built SFT includes a number of key components, including: *a spatially correct cockpit mock-up that simulates selected panels and provides static graphic overlays; *an animated schematics display system that includes a large screen monitor and cockpit display monitor; and *an instructor operator's station featuring touch screen operation, a remote handheld keypad, and over 500 selectable malfunctions.
"Because of our extensive experience building a variety of C-130 simulators, we were able to deliver a mature training device for the RAAF," said John Pitts, president and chief executive officer, Reflectone. "For example, we used proven systems models and software code that we're also using on C-130J dynamic mission simulators, flight training devices, and maintenance part-task trainers for the Royal Air Force in the United Kingdom. Our experience on the C-130 platform helps us deliver fully capable and highly reliable training devices."
