AMS To Convert B757 Passenger To Freighter (July 26)
BEAVERTON, Ore. --- Precision Conversions, LLC's President, Steven J. Thomas, announced today the award of an installation contract to Aviation Management Systems, Inc. (AMS) in Goodyear, AZ.
The installation contract will provide aircraft modification and other technical support services required to support the certification of Precision Conversions, LLC's first B757 passenger-to-freighter conversion. The conformity aircraft is scheduled for modification at AMS in fourth quarter 2002.
Mr. Thomas stated, "The AMS contract for cargo conversions continues our advancement towards certification, allowing critical production preplanning activities to begin in advance of the first aircraft arrival." Further, "The selection of AMS considered their past cargo conversion programs and their demonstrated experience and investment in B757 technical capability, tooling and associated facilities required for the long-term support of the B757 fleet."
Precision Conversions, LLC was formed as a joint venture between Wagner Aeronautical, Inc. and Erickson Group, Ltd. to design engineer, manufacture, certify and install Boeing 757 Cargo conversions under a multiple-use supplemental type certificate (STC). Erickson Group, Ltd. formally owned Erickson Air-Crane Company, a heavy lift helicopter company that expanded from four Sikorsky Skycranes in 1971 to fourteen at the time the company was sold in 1997. During this time, Erickson obtained multiple STCs for the airframe, began overhauling engines, components and rotor blades and manufacturing parts. Erickson acquired the Type Certificate from Sikorsky in 1992. Wagner Aeronautical, Inc., founded in 1993, is a diversified aerospace engineering company providing complete support for the fixed wing and rotorcraft industries. Engineering support includes design, structural, fatigue, and damage tolerance analysis, testing and aircraft certification. Wagner was the prime engineering group on a conversion program for the Boeing 727 and a subcontractor for a conversion program on the 747. In addition, Wagner has been involved in several re-certification and continued airworthiness projects on converted 727 and 737 aircraft.
