ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.---Primex Technologies, Inc. today announced that ADI Limited of Australia has awarded the company a $13.9 million contract for undisclosed quantities of 25mm M791 Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot-Tracer (APDS-T), M793 Target Practice-Tracer (TP-T) and MK2 Multipurpose Tracer-Self Destruct (MPT-SD) ammunition for use in the Australian Army's Light Armored Vehicles.
Mike Wilson, Primex Technologies' President, Ordnance and Tactical Systems Division, said, "This contract represents an ongoing commitment by Primex to both ADI and the Australian government, and is a part of a longer term arrangement whereby Primex is working with both parties to begin Australian production of 25mm ammunition.''
Primex and ADI, Australia's largest defense company, have entered into a long-term licensing arrangement for 25mm ammunition. Primex will transfer the technology for manufacture of the rounds in Australia. Until full manufacture is established in Australia, Primex will continue to provide completed rounds of ammunition as well as ammunition kits to ADI on an ``as required'' basis.
"We are especially pleased with the performance and success in Australia of the MK2 MPT-SD round,'' Wilson said. The MK2 is a cooperative development between Primex and Nammo Raufoss A.S. of Norway and uses the "Multi-Purpose'' principle to provide improved reliability compared to conventionally fuzed ammunition against all classes of aircraft, helicopters, surface vessels and light armored vehicles.
Primex Technologies, Inc., a defense and aerospace company with headquarters in St. Petersburg, FL, maintains core businesses in munitions, propellants, satellite propulsion systems and electronic products.
