Brazil to Introduce First Mi-35 Combat Helicopters
This Saturday (April 17) the Air Force Command will incorporate into the aircraft inventory of the Força Aérea Brasileira (FAB) the first three AH-2 Sabre combat helicopters, manufactured in Russia, out of the 12 that are being acquired.
The military ceremony will take place at Porto Velho air base, in Roraima, at 11 a.m. and will be attended by Defence Minister Nelson Jobim and by the Commander of the FAB, Air Lieutenant-Brigadier (Gen.) Juniti Saito.
The AH-2 Sabre is a combat helicopter with elevated firepower capabilities, and can be used to escort other helicopters, for air interdiction and fire-support of troops on the ground.
The aircraft is designated MI-35, and it has been combat-tested in several conflicts.
The new helicopters will equip the 2nd Squadron of the Eighth Aviation Group (2°/8° GAV), a unit that was recently relocated from Recife air base to Porto Velho.
