ADO Wants More Defense Contractors (Aug. 22)

Businesses in the Riverina/Murray Valley region are being invited to find out how they can become suppliers for the defense industry at a 'Building Defence and Industry Partnership' Briefing in Albury on Friday 23 August.

Logistics Service Manager, Ms Fran Pollock from Tenix Defence Land Division in Bandiana, will present on how to do business with the Department of Defence from a contractors' perspective.

Tenix Defence is the Prime Contractor to the Department of Defence in the Albury/Wodonga area and the briefing will provide practical guidance and advice to assist local businesses in their dealings with Defence.

The briefing comes at a time of high activity for the Department of Defence and consequently for Tenix Defence business in the area.

Ms Pollack said the recent announcement of the $500 million contract with the Defence Materiel Organisation to upgrade the Australian Army's fleet of M113 armored personnel carriers in Bandiana has already attracted the attention of local suppliers.

"The defense industry is very specialized and often smaller businesses are unsure of the requirements and standards involved," she said.

"The defense industry briefing will assist local suppliers to find out what standards are required for work set by the Department of Defence.

"Following the briefing there will be the opportunity to speak with Tenix Defence staff who work with the local suppliers on a daily basis.

"Tenix Defence is looking forward to using the opportunity to meeting some local suppliers in the area," Ms Pollock said.

In addition to providing an excellent networking opportunity for suppliers to meet with each other, local contractors will be able to access Help Desks that will be staffed by experienced Defence representatives who will provide a range of publications and comprehensive advice on Defence's procurement processes and future opportunities.
