AFRL To Study Microwave Lethality (Sept. 2)



Fiore Industries Inc., Albuquerque, N.M., is being awarded a $16,350,000 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to provide for support for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) program that investigates the lethality of high power microwave (HPM) devices on target systems and the susceptibility/vulnerability of U.S. systems to HPM threats. The ultimate goals of the AFRL HPM effects programs are to provide information on HPM source output parameters that will allow them to disrupt, deny, degrade and/or destroy adversary systems and to protect U.S. systems from HPM attack or the effects of fratricide.

The Air Force can issue delivery orders totaling up to the maximum amount indicated above, though actual requirements may necessitate less than the amount above. The locations of performances is Fiore Industries, Albuquerque, N.M.; the Air Force Research Laboratory, Directed Energy Directorate, Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M. At this time $208,019 of the funds has been obligated. Further funds will be obligated as individual delivery orders are issued. This work will be complete by August 2005. Solicitation began December 2001, and negotiations were completed July 2002.
