Approval For Goodrich LandMark (Sept. 10)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Goodrich Corporation has received Technical Standard Order approval for its LandMark(TM) Terrain Awareness and Warning System. The Supplemental Type Certificate was also achieved aboard the company's King Air C-90.

Providing a high-resolution terrain depiction on the widest array of displays, the LandMark System offers pilots a cost-effective and easily- integrated terrain awareness system," states Brian Brandewie, President, Avionics Systems. Along with terrain, the Goodrich LandMark system also depicts runways and land-based obstacles such as towers and buildings. Its information can be displayed on a wide variety of Terrain Awareness and Warning Systems. When coupled with the Goodrich Radar Graphics Computer model RGC-350, terrain can also be viewed on almost any other weather radar indicator.

The RGC-350 also offers several other advantages such as improved terrain contouring, traffic data and lightning display information, all shown through an existing radar indicator display. LandMark is expected to be available soon on the new Goodrich i-linc Multi-Function Display, completing a total situational awareness package with moving map, terrain, traffic, weather, and lightning.

Supplying a continuous, color, "birds-eye" view of the surrounding terrain, the LandMark Terrain Awareness and Warning Class B System offers predictive warning functions using the position from a GPS receiver, altitude information, and aircraft configuration. As a forward looking terrain avoidance system, the LandMark system issues warnings on premature descents, reduced required terrain clearance, and imminent terrain impact. In addition, the system will warn of imminent contact with the ground for excessive rates of descent, negative climb rates or altitude loss after takeoff. It also features a voice callout of "five hundred" when the aircraft descends to 500 feet above the nearest runway.

Goodrich Avionics Systems is a leading designer and manufacturer of advanced cockpit avionics. Its SmartDeck Integrated Flight Displays & Control System incorporates technologies from popular product lines such as SkyWatch and SkyWatch HP collision avoidance, Stormscope weather mapping, LandMark terrain awareness, and GH-3100 electronic standby instrument system. Additionally, SmartDeck will feature Goodrich's Highway In The Sky (HITS) and Synthetic Vision (SV) technologies.
