Airbus, Raytheon Offer New Tanker To Japan (Dec.1)

WACO, Texas---Raytheon Company and Airbus Industrie are offering a KC-310 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft for the Japanese Air Self Defense Force (JASDF) Air Tanker KC-X program. The KC-310 is the military version of the A310-300 aircraft with air-to-air refueling, passenger, and cargo transport capability.

The passenger and cargo configurations can be arranged according to Japanese Defense Agency (JDA) mission requirements to either carry cargo, or passengers (up to 279), or combinations of cargo and passengers. The KC-310 MRTT can also be configured for medical evacuation, adding flexibility to the JDA and JASDF requirements for air-to-air refueling missions and long range air transportation.

The Raytheon/Airbus MRTT team brings together the capabilities of Airbus Industrie, a proven world class aircraft manufacturer, and Raytheon's Aircraft Integration Systems (AIS), the premier international military aircraft modification and airborne defense systems integration company.

AIS will modify the A310-300 aircraft to a tanker/transport version with the support of Airbus. AIS has a vast experience in aircraft modification and modernization programs, including the US Navy P-3C Sustained Readiness Program and the U.S. Air Force KC-135 Global Air Traffic Management modernization programs.
