Alenia Exhibits at Africa Aerospace & Defense

Alenia Aeronautica, a Finmeccanica company, participates at the “Africa Aerospace and Defence” show, the most important African exhibition for the Defence and Aeronautics industry, to be held at Ysterplaat base, in Cape Town, South Africa, from the 21st to the 25th of September.

The African Continent represents for Alenia Aeronautica a market and an area where to develop important partnerships. Along the years the close collaboration with countries like Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Algeria, have led to strong relationships ranging from defence and security fields to programmes for civil applications.

Alenia Aeronautica, the largest Italian aeronautic player and among the biggest in the world, operating world-wide in the design, development and production of commercial and military aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and aerostructures, shows on display at AAD a C-27J Spartan model with the Moroccan colours; this country has purchased 4 aircraft, already on delivery.

The C-27J – company’s flagship and world’s best seller in its category - is a tactical transport aircraft, capable of performing many missions such as transport of troops, goods and medicines, MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation), airdrop operations, paratroopers’ launches, search and rescue (SAR), logistical re-supply, humanitarian assistance and fire-fighting.

An Alenia Aeronautica’s C-27J will also be on flight display to show all its technical and operational characteristics.

The C-27J is extremely well-suited for a country like South Africa for its being suitable for harsh territories, take-offs and landings from/on short and semi-prepared runways, whose characteristics are: extreme operational flexibility, capability of carrying out day-night operations in any weather condition as well as high cost-effectiveness ratio.

Of Alenia Aeronautica’s excellent products also exhibiting the ATR 42MP model with the marks of Nigeria (country that has already acquired and received two); this is the maritime patrol version of the regional transport aircraft ATR 42, capable of accomplishing, at lowest operational costs, maritime patrol roles, search and rescue (SAR), smuggling and piracy control, environmental control, transport of personnel and goods, medical evacuation and civil protection.

Alenia Aeronautica presents also a model of the new -600 version of the commercial aircraft ATR 72.

On display also a model of the M-346 advanced trainer aircraft of Alenia Aermacchi, an Alenia Aeronautica’s company, leader in the design, development and production of integrated training systems for the different phases of training, from basic to advanced. The M-346 represents the best answer to the current training requirements of pilots who will fly high-performance military airplanes, with advanced characteristics like the Eurofighter Typhoon.
