Australia Reaffirms Shipbuilding Plan (Sept. 24)

The Defence Department today reaffirmed its commitment to the Naval Shipbuilding and Repair Sector Plan, despite questions raised today about the validity of economic data.

Since the public release of the NSR Sector Plan, Defence has been undertaking a thorough review of the document, to pick up any typographical and editorial errors.

Some minor errors have been found. We have produced an erratum and this has been posted on the Defence website.

Specifically, the most significant of the errors involves personnel numbers presented in Tables 4 & 5. These two tables were inadvertently inserted from an earlier file and did not accurately reflect the actual numbers used in the modelling.

In addition, some presentational errors have been found in Tables 7 and 9 (ie the percentages don't add up to 100% due to some data not being properly represented in the tables.

None of these errors change the key policy conclusions or modelling outcomes of the Plan.

Accordingly, the Department advised the Minister two weeks ago of the above typographical errors and reaffirmed the robustness of the economic modelling in the Plan. (ends)
