Vickers Defence Systems announces that it has received a contract to carry out a feasibility study for the Future Engineer Tank (FET). FET is the next generation vehicle for the Royal Engineers to replace the obsolete Chieftain based vehicles. 102 systems are required, half of which will carry the Vickers BR90 tactical bridge.
The design study represents 12 months of design and development work where a number of different options to satisfy the British Army requirement will be researched.
Vickers experience of systems integration gained through the Challenger 2 programme will ensure that the options proposed by the company will be of the same exacting standard and reliability as the extremely successful Challenger 2.
