Northrop Grumman, Wartsila NSD Team on Marine Diesels for Military Applications

;SUNNYVALE, Calif. --- Northrop Grumman Corporation's Marine Systems business unit here and Wartsila NSD North America's Marine unit in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., have teamed to offer diesel engines for the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard.
;Under the terms of their agreement, WNSNA will supply production engine designs and manufacturing technology for medium and slow speed diesels while Northrop Grumman Marine Systems will provide marketing, program management, manufacturing and logistics resources for this military market segment.
;"As the U.S. Navy continues to stress reductions in total cost of ownership, the transition from older, less reliable engines which propel amphibious and auxiliary ships to more modern, fuel-efficient medium speed diesel engines is inevitable,'' said Bill Malacrida, vice president of WNSNA. "This teaming arrangement provides the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard with a modern, cost-effective systems integration solution for propulsion and power generation.''
;Said Jim Hupton, vice president of Northrop Grumman's Marine Systems: "In today's highly competitive environment, procurement decisions involving new technologies require insight into systems-level as well as component-level issues. Through the combined expertise of WNSNA and Northrop Grumman, the U.S. Government will now have a supplier that can not only provide world class hardware, but integrate and furnish life cycle support for a complete engine room.''
;
;Wartsila NSD-North America, headquartered in Annapolis, Md., is a world class supplier of commercial diesel engines. WNSNA is part of the Wartsila NSD Corporation, a global engineering organization focusing on power generation, marine propulsion and industrial markets.
