ATK To Produce Ammo For Euro Customer (Jan. 26)

MINNEAPOLIS--- ATK said it has been selected by a European allied nation to produce 20mm training ammunition for use by its F-5E fighter aircraft.

Alliant Ammunition Systems Company, New Brighton, Minn., will manage the contract. Production will be done by Alliant Ammunition and Powder Company at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, Va.

"This contract continues a long ATK tradition of supplying high-quality defense products to friendly European nations,'' said Michael McCann, president, Alliant Ammunition Systems Company. McCann said the ammunition supplied under the contract will be produced at ATK's new state-of-the art medium caliber ammunition load, assemble, and pack facility at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant.

Alliant Ammunition Systems Company, which comprises ATK's U.S. and international medium caliber and tank ammunition business, is one of five operating companies within the company's Conventional Munitions business segment.

Conventional Munitions is the nation's largest manufacturer of military ammunition, with more than 120 million rounds of medium-caliber ammunition and over two million rounds of tank ammunition produced for the U.S. and its allies.

ATK is a $1.1 billion aerospace and defense company with leading market positions in munitions, solid propulsion, composite structures, and precision electronic fuzes. The company, which is headquartered in Hopkins, Minn., employs approximately 5,500 people and has three business segments: Conventional Munitions, Aerospace, and Defense Systems.
