BAE SYSTEMS today announced Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems-Manassas has awarded the company a contract to upgrade two U.S. Navy SH-60F Weapon Systems Trainers (WSTs).
The Training Solutions (formerly Reflectone) business unit of BAE SYSTEMS will integrate a day-night visual system and incorporate aircraft survivability equipment capabilities as well as provide the ability to reconfigure the WSTs between the SH-60F and HH-60H platforms. The unit will also incorporate the capability to train using the latest night vision goggles as well as integrate a distributed interactive simulation environment for the newly developed JointSAF (semi-automated forces).
The SH-60F/HH-60H helicopters are used by the Navy to perform a variety of missions, including undersea warfare, surface warfare, and combat search and rescue. The SH-60F/HH-60H WSTs are located at the Naval Air Station (NAS) in Jacksonville, Fla. and NAS North Island, Calif.
"Because these helicopters operate in dangerous environments where external visual cues play such a key role in the missions, it is imperative the crews receive high fidelity simulator training," said John Lenyo, vice president of marketing and business development for the Training Solutions business unit of BAE SYSTEMS. "By integrating a common visual system with day-night features into the training devices we'll be able to enhance initial and tactical training."
Some of the aircraft survivability equipment simulations that will be added include forward looking infrared (FLIR) and Hellfire missile simulation capabilities. BAE SYSTEMS will also perform modifications on the simulator cockpits, hardware, and software.
