Vickers Defence Systems Secures £11m Of New Orders For Its Unique Modular Bridging System - BR90
;Vickers Defence Systems announces that it has successfully secured £11m of new contracts for its unique modular tactical bridging system, BR90. ;The substantial orders from the UK Ministry of Defence include the development and production of a trestle which is deployed during the launch of tank-laid bridges to enable multiple bridges to be laid across wide gaps. Additional BR90 vehicles, ramps and panels have also been ordered. ;Commenting on the new orders, John Boughton, Sales and Marketing Director, said: "BR90's uniqueness lies in its reliability and modular design. There are seven common modular panels which are used for all versions of the bridge from 13 meters to 62 meters. This has obvious logistic advantages. The standard 32 meter General Support Bridge can be laid by only 10 soldiers, in three vehicles, in 25 minutes - taking substantially fewer men, less resource and time than any of its competitors." ;Additional orders for the BR90 bridging system are in the final stages of negotiation and decisions on major export opportunities are expected in the next few months. ;Background note ;There are more BR90 bridging systems than any other competitor system. ;BR90 is now in service with the British Army in the UK and Germany and has been proven in peace support operations in Bosnia.
