Aerostar Brings MiG-21 Upgrade To Aero India

Aerostar S.A., leading company of the Romanian aeronautical industry is already at the third participation at AERO INDIA. The first international exhibition attended by the company in the year of its 50th anniversary since foundation, AERO INDIA represents for Aerostar the building of a new tradition: co-operation and association with local partners in order to meet the exigences and needs of the users.

Specialist in the maintenance and overhaul of military and civil aircraft, as well as of ground defence systems, Aerostar confirms by this presence its complex offer both from the viewpoint of capabilities and its offer to co-operate with local partners.

The main defence programmes performed by Aerostar (the MiG-21 Lancer upgrade, the LAROM upgrade programme of the multiple rocket launcher, and the national IFF programme- DIALOG) put into value one of the strong points of the company- an in-depth knowledge of eastern-type platforms on which advanced technologies and expertise are integrated, at state-of-the-art level.

The company's ability to work in co-operation brings obvious benefits for the users: final products compatible with most advanced demands, establishment of cores of "high tech" expertise at local level, acceptability of costs.

The expertise gained by Aerostar in the maintenance, overhaul and upgrade programmes for military aircraft and related equipment lead to the consolidation of a highly competent and effective offer on the overhaul market for MiG-21, L-29, L-39ZA aircraft, R-95, R-37, VK-1A, M-701, AI 25TL, R-25 aeroengines.

Also, Aerostar as sole Romanian manufacturer of aviation hydraulic equipment for the aircraft: IAR-330, IAR-316B, IAR-93, IAR-99, IAK-52 has extended its offer in the field of development and production of dual-use hydraulic equipment.

Aerostar S.A. was founded in 1953 as a repair base for the military aircraft of the Romanian army. The company has been profitable all along its 50 years of activity, being a first rank supplier of the Romanian Ministry of defence, position of honour which works in harmony with remarkable technical and financial results, both on the domestic and export market. The estimates for 2002 indicate a turnover of over 780 billion ROL, with over 60% sales from export. In present, it has 2300 employees.

Aerostar is recognized for the MiG-21 Lancer upgrade programme for the Romanian army, the LAROM upgrade of the multiple launch rocket system and for the national IFF programme integrated by the company. Also, Aerostar is the manufacturer of the over 1800 YAK-52 aircraft.

The key elements for the strategic directions of development focus on the repair, maintenance and upgrade of military aircraft, integration of complex defence systems on the one hand, and on the line of general aviation on the other hand.

With a modern and effective system of management and organization, Aerostar has achieved the integration of the technological progress and control of costs, two strong arguments on the defence programmes market.
