BAE Systems Absorbs Reflectone (Mar. 01)

BAE Systems has today announced that its business unit formerly known as Reflectone, a leader in simulation and training, has been renamed Flight Simulation and Training as all parts of the company adopt a single, consistent corporate identity as BAE SYSTEMS.

Reflectone, founded in 1939, was acquired by British Aerospace in May 1997. On 30 November last year, British Aerospace merged with Marconi Electronic Systems to form BAE SYSTEMS. The new company is the world's second largest defence contractor and third largest aerospace company.

"To reflect its global reach and depth of systems capabilities, BAE SYSTEMS has created a new and consistent identity across the company," said John Pitts, president of the Flight Simulation and Training business unit of BAE SYSTEMS. "We recognize the Reflectone name does carry some brand equity in the simulation and training industry, but the whole of BAE SYSTEMS is much greater than the sum of its parts. BAE SYSTEMS will quickly develop an awareness and reputation as one of the few companies worldwide with the capability to deliver integrated systems solutions. We believe simulation and training is an important piece of these integrated solutions and want the market to recognize BAE SYSTEMS' capabilities in this area."

The strategic direction and objectives of the Flight Simulation and Training (formerly Reflectone) business unit will not change. The business unit will continue to focus on aviation training and simulation, offering a full range of products and services to both military and civil customers. Flight Simulation and Training will remain headquartered in Tampa, Florida.

"Our customers will not really notice much change," said Pitts. "Even though our name will be different, we will maintain an intense focus on being responsive to our customers and meeting our delivery commitments."

BAE SYSTEMS is a world class prime contractor and systems integrator for customers in the air, sea, and land sectors. The company has nine home markets with more than 115,000 employees. Flight Simulation and Training focuses on providing aviation simulation and training solutions. The business unit manufactures full flight simulators for civil and military aircraft and offers a range of aviation training and support services.
