ADG Unit Wins Two Ammo Contracts

VIENNA, Va. --- The Allied Defense Group, Inc., formerly Allied Research Corporation, announces its Belgian defense unit, MECAR S.A., received $4.7 million in new ammunition contracts, one from a new North African customer and one from a non-traditional customer in the Middle East.

These contracts call for MECAR's 25mm as well as its 90mm ammunition to be delivered this year and next year. As of March 31, 2003, The Allied Defense Group's consolidated backlog was approximately $130.9 million.

To date, the number of orders received by MECAR is up sharply over last year. These most recent orders include the introduction of the 25mm Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot with Tracer (APFSDS-T) into a market normally dominated by larger calibers. This new round offers penetration capabilities that vastly exceed those offered by older types of ammunition. As a result, the effective range against modern targets using 25mm weapon systems has been tripled and penetration at a given range is more than fifty percent improved. MECAR was the first company to successfully miniaturize the technology used in this 25mm round and today is the world's largest producer of this type of ammunition. MECAR continues to aggressively develop its markets while responding rapidly to its long-term customer requirements.

General (Ret) J.H. Binford Peay, III, The Allied Defense Group's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, "MECAR's energy, creativity and reliability make it a world leader in the production of high quality, technologically advanced ammunition. It is off to a great start this year, with orders from traditional customers as well as orders from new clients including those in the United States and Europe."
