Alvis Unit Wins Norwegian Contract

Alvis Moelv AS has entered into contract with The Norwegian Defence Logistics Organisation (NDLO) for maintenance of the Norwegian Army’s fleet of Armoured Engineer Vehicles (AEV)

The value of the contract is estimated to be up to NOK 9m (£802,000) over a period of five years. However, the actual contract value will depend on vehicle usage and day to day fleet maintenance requirements. The scope of the contract will be evaluated after a 2 _ years trial period.

This contract is the first of its kind for the external industrial maintenance of the Norwegian Army’s armoured vehicles and is the first long term contract for Alvis Moelv in this field. The contract covers maintenance on both AEV vehicles in service and other extended contractor support activities.

Brigadier KÃ¥re Magne Dalen, Commander of NDLO/Land said: This contract will establish a new way to measure effectiveness between industrial companies and military workshops in the maintenance of armoured vehicles.

Anders Dalborg, President of Alvis Moelv commented: For Alvis Moelv, this is an important milestone in a new, competitive business area. We have high hopes of further fleet maintenance contracts in the future.

The Norwegian fleet of 22 AEVs was successfully delivered by Alvis Moelv between 1999-2001 and has completed deployments in Kosovo.

The AEV is based on Leopard 1 main battle tank chassis and is capable of excavating, bulldozing and winching operations. Alvis Moelv fitted the vehicles with a new upper structure incorporating an excavator, dozer blade and a winch system with a constant pulling force up to 72 tonnes.

Alvis Moelv AS is part of the Alvis Hägglunds Group, which is wholly owned by Alvis plc and forms part of the Alvis Group of companies. Other businesses in the Alvis Group include Alvis Vickers and Alvis Bridging in the UK, Alvis OMC and Alvis Gear Ratio in South Africa.

Alvis plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is involved with the design and production of armoured fighting vehicles and other specialist military vehicles. The Alvis Group turnover in 2002 was £225 million.
