;During the recent Federal election campaign, the Government identified a need for improved Defence procurement arrangements, as one of its priorities in its second term of office.
;Since becoming Minister for Defence, I have been discussing procurement arrangements and in particular the Collins submarine project, with my Department.
;I have decided to appoint Dr Malcolm McIntosh, the former Chief of Defence Procurement in the United Kingdom, and Mr John Prescott, the former Chief Executive of BHP, to review progress to date on the Collins submarine project, and to report to me on proposals for completion of the project.
;I have asked the Review Team to complete their report by 30th June.
