The Air Traffic Management and Airport Systems (ATMAS) Division of Alenia Marconi Systems is a significant player in the ATM market place with systems in more than one hundred countries worldwide. During the last twelve months a number of important contracts have been won for the supply and installation of radar systems and Area Control Centres leading to a healthy order book.
The last year has seen three SIR-M secondary monopulse radar installed in Brazil at Petrolina, Poreto Segura and Born Jesus Da Lapa.
During the coming year an ATCR33 solid state primary radar and three SIR-S secondary radar, including Mode S selective interrogation, will be installed in Norway at Stavanger, Bergen and Oslo.
A SIR-M secondary surveillance radar has become operational in the Republic of Macedonia at the Skopje airport along with the approach and air control centre.
Three SIR-M secondary radar have been installed in Greece at the Rodi, Karpathis and Thassos airports.
Algeria has confirmed an order for the supply of six radar. One ATCR-33S solid state primary radar, co-located with a SIR-M monopulse radar, will be installed at Houari Boumediene airport while four more SIR-M monopulse secondary radar will be installed at Oran, Constantine and two airports in the North West and North East regions.
An ATCR 33S primary radar and a SIR-M secondary radar will be supplied to Saudi Arabia at the Jeddah airport and a SIR-M secondary radar for Riyad airport.
Contracts have been placed by Bulgaria for the modernisation of four primary radar systems and by Luxembourg for the modernisation of the radar, tower and approach control systems.
Romania has requested an extensive upgrade and modernisation of the Bucharest air control centre and approach control systems. This activity will be undertaken in close co-operation with the EUROCONTROL external advisory services. The first phase of modernisation consists of the refurbishment of existing AMS radar, the provision of two secondary radar and the upgrading of two existing centres which will achieve an open architecture. The supply of another three centres will then follow. The second phase will integrate new ATM functions bringing it in line with the latest EUROCONTROL requirements for integration and interoperability.
Following a competitive international bid, Alenia Marconi Systems has been selected by the Uzbekistan Havo Yullary for the supply of three ATC systems to the Republic of Uzbekistan to be installed at Samarkand, Urgench and Bukhara airports.
As part of the recovery plan of air transport in the Balkans, to which our recent Macedonian project also belongs, NATA, the Air Service provider of Albania has awarded a contract to AMS for the supply and installation of a Monopulse Secondary Radar in the vicinity of the airport of Tirana. The system will provide radar coverage to the terminal area around the airport and more importantly will provide seamless coverage in the upper airspace through integration into the ACC of Brindisi. This thanks to an agreement between ENAV and NATA.
During 1999 AMS successfully supplied its customers with certified "Y2K" kits to upgrade their systems.
In January 2000, and after rigorous technical and economic evaluation, AMS were awarded the contract for the provision of equipment and services for the Hanoi FIR Air Traffic Surveillance System. During the same period the Air Traffic Service Authority of Bulgaria selected AMS for the supply of the Sofia Control Centre.
