A member of the GCC is first customer country of Aerospatiale's Eryx missile in the Middle East

One of the Gulf Cooperation Council's members has just ordered Aerospatiale's Eryx multi-purpose anti-tank missile.
;This sale is particularly significant since it constitutes the first order of the Eryx missile by a Middle East country.
Eryx has been adopted after a comparative evaluation with respect to the anti-tank rocket launchers presently on the market. Eryx firings were a complete success by day as by night, at moving or fixed targets. The Eryx solution of a guided missile was preferred to non guided rocket launchers for the following reasons :
;- powerful and multi-purpose tandem warhead for destroying tank reactive and special armour plates and attacking any type of structures (bunkers, buildings...).
;- extended range with respect to rocket launchers (from 25 to 600 metres).
;- soft launch and firing capability in totally confined spaces (in particular for the urban warfare).

;The Eryx missile will come into service in this country as from April 1999. It will ensure the Emirate's territory defence together with the personal safety ot that State's highest authorities.

;Commercial Success And Presence On All The Continents
Eryx orders recorded since 1993 totalled 48,000 missiles and more than 3,200 firing posts for Aerospatiale. 1,600 firing posts and 25,000 missiles have been produced to date.
Now, the Eryx missile is present on all the continents : North America (Canada), South America (Brazil), Europe (Norway and France), the Middle-East and South-Eastern Asia (Malaysia).
