Motorola Introduces Compact Communications System with UHF, SATCOM, LOS and Link 11 Capability
;SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--- Motorola Systems Solutions Group (SSG) today introduced a compact Link 11 COMMS-capable LST-5D radio system that can be used as an adjunct or replacement to the larger terminals now used in the Tactical Digital Information Link (TADIL) A. ;The LST-5D radio provides versatility and value for the communications user by including Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Satellite Communications (SATCOM), Line of Sight (LOS) modes as well as Link 11. ;"With the LST-5D Link 11, we have achieved a significant reduction in equipment size and power usage,'' said Duane Pearson, business unit manager of Motorola SSG Radio Products. "Since we've sold over 800 units to almost 100 customers, the LST-5D offers proven reliability and value in the field. Most importantly, it's a system that is available today.'' ;The LST-5D UHF Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) SATCOM transceiver forms the core of the system. It provides Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) mandated wideband (25KHz) and narrowband (5KHz) communications for encrypted and clear voice, data, fax and video transmissions. With the addition of the Link 11 interface unit, Tactical Data Systems users can achieve LOS and full UHF SATCOM connectivity. This capability will allow users to exchange digital information among airborne, land-based or shipboard tactical data systems on a global scale. ;The LST-5D recently received 4th Letter (CJCSI6251.01) JITC certification for conforming to rigid military standards testing. ;This Certification is the final step in allowing the Motorola UHF SATCOM DAMA terminals to be used on the worldwide Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) DAMA System. ;The system easily interfaces with existing Link 11 equipment and adds AM ciphertext diphase capability to the LST-5D. The radio weighs11.6 pounds and requires a single battery. The LST-5D is highly portable and fits many applications in where space or weight are an issue - whether manpack, airborne, shipboard, vehicular or fixed-station applications. The militarized design of both units allows them to withstand extreme environments. ;"Our intent with the LST-5D is to create a DAMA terminal that will deliver the highest quality possible at the lowest system cost,'' Pearson said. "In cases where a customer already has LST products in place, selecting the 5D is a very cost-effective way to move to DAMA. In addition, we provide depot support, engineering support and other levels of service expertise.''
