Alvis Unveils FCLV, FRES At London Show (Sept. 9)

At DSEi, Alvis Vickers will be showing the winner of the Future Command and Liaison Vehicle (FCLV) programme, the Alvis-Iveco Multipurpose Light Vehicle (MLV) – a light armoured 4x4 vehicle, which is highly mobile and provides protection against mines and small arms fire.

Alvis Vickers is completing final contract negotiations for the supply of almost 500 new fighting vehicles to the British Army.

The negotiations follow July’s announcement by the Ministry of Defence that Alvis Vickers had been selected winner of a competition to supply the Future Command and Liaison Vehicle (FCLV). Subject to final negotiations, the contract is valued at around £200m.

The MLV is based on an Iveco design, which is being developed for a major Italian Army programme. For the British Army’s FCLV programme, Alvis Vickers will integrate UK mission equipment into the vehicle including a weapon station, armour pack and communication systems.

Managing Director of Alvis Vickers, Trevor Harrison, said the MLV selection for FCLV was “great news” for the company and a tribute to the expertise and hard work of the MLV team at Telford. He added: “Winning FCLV is a demonstration of our competitiveness and our ability to provide cost-effective solutions to land systems requirements”.

“As prime contractor for this programme, we are deploying a team of skilled and experienced project managers and engineers to ensure the successful development, delivery and support of FCLV.”

Former Challenger 2 Project Manager, Les Tyler, has been appointed Project Executive for FCLV. He said: “It’s an exciting programme and will no doubt be a demanding one too. But Alvis Vickers has a lot of experience as prime contractor for programmes involving large numbers of vehicles and I have no doubt that we will use our experience and expertise to overcome challenges and to work productively with the Defence Procurement Agency on FCLV.” (ends)
