ADI Limited is to manage the Department of Defence’s new A$40 million wharf and ammunition storage facility at Eden in NSW under an extension of its long-term Explosive Ordnance (EO) Services contract with Defence.
When the Eden operation comes on board, ADI will be managing 18 explosive ordnance sites for Defence, most of them in regional Australia. The company will recruit local workers for the 12 full time equivalent jobs created by the Eden operation. Local sub contractors will also provide support services.
Newly commissioned, the wharf will service the loading and unloading of ammunition, including missiles, for 40-70 Royal Australian Navy vessels a year. ADI will assume its management role when the storage facility opens in November.
ADI managing director, Mr. Lucio Di Bartolomeo, said Defence’s decision to extend ADI’s EO Services contract to include the Eden operation was a significant endorsement of the company’s contract performance.
“Defence’s decision reflects its satisfaction with ADI’s management of the contract and the efficiencies achieved,” he said. “Our new role at Eden follows a number of extensions since the then $230 million project was awarded in 2001.
“The project operates very much as a strategic partnership between ADI and Defence and this is clearly working well for both sides.”
Under the EO Services contract, ADI is managing the warehousing, maintenance and distribution of the Australian Defence Force’s explosive ordnance for at least 10 years.
ADI is the principal supplier of ammunition to the Australian Defence Force from its purpose built Benalla, Victoria, manufacturing facility.
