Australia To Upgrade Army Heavy Vehicles (Dec. 30)
The Australian Government will provide a safer and healthier environment for soldiers working with the Army’s heavy recovery vehicles and Mack trucks, the Minister for Defence Robert Hill said today.
Three companies have been selected as the preferred suppliers to make safety modifications to the fleet of heavy recovery vehicles and to reduce the cabin noise levels in the R-series Mack trucks.
“Mack Trucks Australia has been awarded a $35 million contract to replace the recovery systems and address occupational health and safety concerns on 64 vehicles,” Senator Hill said.
“Mack Trucks Australia will fit a modern commercial off-the-shelf system to satisfy both operational and occupational health and safety requirements for the next 10 to 15 years.
“Comtech Automotive Industries and Crisp-Air have been awarded a total of $4.5 million in contracts for the purchase of noise reduction kits.
“The noise reduction contract will see the installation of insulation materials and air-conditioners. These will reduce the noise levels in the vehicle cabins significantly, which will improve the conditions for the vehicle crews.
“The Government views health and safety in the workplace as essential; this major modification program will ensure the relevant ADF members will be working in an environment that is as safe and comfortable as practicable.”
