Thomson-CSF and Dassault Aviation cooperation: a model for success in export markets
;Greece has announced its decision to acquire 15 Mirage 2000-5 Mk2 aircraft from Dassault Aviation, equipped with Thomson-CSF radar and countermeasures systems, and to upgrade 10 of its Mirage 2000s to the same configuration. The Greek Air Force currently has a fleet of 35 Mirage 2000s. ;The decision is the result of an exemplary cooperative approach by Thomson-CSF and Dassault Aviation whereby the partners work together to design, adapt and sell advanced combat aircraft-in which the importance of electronics is constantly rising-to meet the needs of modern armed forces. The recent Mirage contract in the United Arab Emirates is another example of this successful cooperative approach. ;The radar and countermeasures systems for the Mirage 2000-5 Mk2 were designed and developed by Thomson-CSF Detexis, and the Greek contract further consolidates the company's position as European leader in this field. The RDY Doppler radar system will provide the aircraft with its multi-target radar capability in air-to-air, air-to-ground and air-to-surface modes. The ICMS Mk3 integrated countermeasures suite, which is derived from the system already in service on board Greece's Mirage 2000s, will perform self-protection roles and enhance platform survivability even in the densest electromagnetic environments. ;In addition, Thomson-CSF is supplying all the cockpit displays for the Mirage 2000-5 Mk2, optimizing the man-machine interface and improving weapon systems deployment. ;In this new configuration, the Mirage 2000 has the ability to carry air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons on the same mission, making the Mirage 2000-5 Mk2 the only swing role" aircraft in its generation. ;As well as Thomson-CSF Detexis, a number of other Thomson-CSF subsidiaries are involved in the Greek Mirage program. These include Thomson-CSF Communications, for secure voice/data communication, identification and navigation systems; Sextant Avionique for man-machine interfaces and laser gyros; Thomson-CSF Optronique for the latest-generation Damocles pod with its all-weather FLIR camera and precision-guided weapon delivery capability; and Auxilec for onboard power generation. ;The contract confirms Greece's continuing confidence in Thomson-CSF for its latest-generation defense systems. Greece recently placed orders with Thomson-CSF for a number of systems including an advanced early warning and control system (AEW&C) and the new-generation Crotale air defense system. ;Thomson-CSF's new program with Greece represents contracts worth more than FF 2.5 billion (380 million euros), making a total of FF 5 billion (760 million euros) in business from Greece in the last six months.
