Cubic Defense Systems Chalks Up First Middle East MILES 2000 Sale With Kuwait Land Forces Contract

;SAN DIEGO---Cubic Defense Systems, a subsidiary of Cubic Corp. has been awarded a contract to provide its Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System, or MILES 2000, to the Kuwait Land Forces, the company announced today.
;The contract represents the first MILES 2000 contract in the Middle East and Cubic's first sale of MILES 2000 through the foreign military sales program, said George J. Stapleton, president of Cubic Sales Ltd., the Cubic subsidiary that handles Middle East foreign sales for Cubic Defense Systems. The dollar amount of the contract was not released.
;Cubic will provide the Kuwait Land Forces with 400 M16 manworn kits and associated support hardware. The equipment will be delivered to Kuwait through the U.S. Army.
;MILES 2000 is a laser-based training system that allows commanders to conduct direct fire force-on-force training exercises in which the actions and the performance of soldiers, weapons and vehicles are recorded and analyzed. Soldiers and marines train with the weapons and vehicles they would use in actual combat, however laser impulses replace actual bullets and accurately replicate the actual ranges and lethality of the specific weapon systems.
;Cubic Defense Systems has provided MILES 2000 for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, as well as the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps. The United Kingdom Ministry of Defence specified MILES 2000 in its $130 million contract with Cubic Defense Systems for two new ground combat training ranges, known as the Area Weapons Effect Simulators, or AWES.
