Rolls-Royce Teams With Israeli Partners For Joint Venture

;Rolls-Royce plc has announced the creation of a joint venture with partners in Israel for the manufacture of aero-engine compressor blades.
;The new company, Techjet (Israel) Limited, is 50 per cent owned by Rolls-Royce, with Blades Technology Limited holding a 30 per cent share and Wertheimer Company Limited owning the remaining 20 per cent.
;When fully established early next year, the new joint venture based in Tefen, northern Israel, will forge and machine up to 450,000 compressor blades a year. The arrangement will give Rolls-Royce a competitive edge in product costs and delivery performance, enabling the company to meet increased demand following its success in the market place.
;This joint venture brings further benefits to Rolls-Royce with plans for its Hillington factory near Glasgow, to acquire advanced technology similar to that used in the Israeli factory. In addition to investment in the joint venture, Rolls-Royce is also proposing to invest £8 million in the technology upgrades at Hillington, subject to successful regional funding and agreement with employees on new working methods.
;Ron Bates, Managing Director Rolls-Royce Compressor Systems, said: "The effect of this investment would be to establish Hillington as a world class manufacturing centre. The plan underlines our commitment to Hillington and gives the facility access to manufacturing methods which it does not have at present."

Background Notes :
;Blades Technology produces compressor and turbine blades in the United States and Israel. The Wertheimer Group, based in Israel, is a technology leader in several engineering areas including tooling.
;A large part of the joint venture's workload will come from work which is currently handled by sub-contractors, including Blades Technology.
