Fokker Aerostructures Awarded Order for Boeing C-17 Components
;Fokker Aerostructures of Papendrecht, the Netherlands, has won an order worth some tens of millions of dollars to supply components for the Boeing C-17 (Globemaster III) military transport aircraft.
;The order relates to fundamental components (*) for the very extensive loading ramp/door of the aircraft's cargo hold, as well as plastic spoilers (*). The actual supply of these components will be handled in co-operation with Fokker Special Products, and is scheduled to take place from 2000 to 2004 (from the 71st production aircraft).
;The C17 is a military transport aircraft that combines high-volume cargo capacity with characteristics that enable it to operate from short and poorly prepared runways. Among the aircraft's well known roles are humanitarian support operations in Bosnia and Africa. The aircraft is used by the United States Air Force, which has placed a total order for 120 and is considering follow-up orders. Orders are also expected to be placed by countries other than the USA.
;Fokker Aerostructures specialises in the design, development and production of lightweight components for the aviation industry. Together with Fokker Elmo, Fokker Special Products and Fokker Services, the company was acquired by Stork in 1996, and now forms part of the Stork Aerospace Group. Stork's aerospace activities now account more than 20% of the total Stork turnover of NLG 5 billion (EUR 2.3 billion).
