Raytheon Awarded $217.8 Million for AMRAAM Production, Product Improvements
LEXINGTON, Mass.--- Raytheon Company received more than $217 million under three separate contracts for production of and improvements to the AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM). The awards were made by the U.S. Air Force Aeronautical Systems Center Air-to-Air Joint Systems Program Office, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. AMRAAM is a software-driven, radar-guided missile that gives pilots the ability to ``launch and leave'' and to engage multiple targets during a single engagement. More than 10,000 missiles have been produced for U.S. and international customers. The award includes a $173.2 million firm-fixed price contract for Lot 13 (13th annual) production of 483 AMRAAMs, which supports missile deliveries, program engineering and logistic services through July 2001 to the U.S. Air Force (180 missiles) and Navy (100 missiles), as well as Foreign Military Sales to Israel, Italy, Japan, Spain and Turkey. The award also covers associated warranties, recertification of the flight termination system command destruct receiver for the U.S. Navy and spares for Spain. The company also received a $36.6 million face value increase to a cost-plus-award-fee contract to provide for the third phase of the Preplanned Product Improvement program. Phase 3 involves engineering and manufacturing development of AMRAAM guidance enhancements. Lastly, the company received a firm-fixed price contract valued at $8 million to provide for AMRAAM repair, support equipment and service life prediction plan support. "These contract awards reinforce the results of AMRAAM's presence in the free world and its unrivaled role as the warfighter's weapon of choice for air-to-air combat,'' said Charles D. Anderson, vice president of the company's Air-to-Air product line. Work under these contracts will continue through Sept. 2003 and Jan. 2000, respectively. All work will be performed at Raytheon facilities in Tucson, Ariz., and Andover, Mass. Final assembly and delivery will occur in Tucson. AMRAAM is operational on the F-15, F-16, F/A-18, the German F4F, the United Kingdom's Sea Harrier, as well as the Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System. AMRAAM is currently being integrated on the F-22, EF-2000, JAS-39 Gripen, JA-37 Viggen, Harrier II Plus, Tornado, and the HAWK-AMRAAM system. AMRAAM also has been demonstrated on a HMMWV-based system, called HUMRAAM.
