Alenia Marconi Systems Awarded Air Defence System Contract

The Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) has placed a major contract, to upgrade its Integrated Air Defence System, with Alenia Marconi Systems. The contract is for the supply of state of the art long range radars along with Control and Reporting Centres and an associated communications network.

This contract continues a partnership which began over 20 years ago. In the mid 1970's, Marconi supplied the Royal Air Force of Oman with its first Air Defence Radar system. In the intervening years Marconi has not only supplied additional radars but also Command and Control Systems to complement them, including a comprehensive communications network to integrate the various elements.

Over the period the RAFO has been operating the Marconi supplied Air Defence System, Marconi has been providing support services at a number of operational sites throughout the Sultanate. In addition, the Company has recently established a training facility to enable RAFO technicians to become skilled in the maintenance of complex electronic systems.

Alenia Marconi Systems is an equal shares joint venture company between Finmeccanica of Italy and GEC of the UK
