Alenia Marconi Opens Oman Training Center (Nov. 16)
At a ceremony in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, Sayed Badr bin Saud bin Hareb Al Busaidi, the country's Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs today officially opened the Oman Aircraft Control College.
The Oman Aircraft Control College is the first project to be developed jointly between the Oman Ministry of Defence (MOD) and the private sector in support of Oman's innovative Partnerships for Development programme. It results from the Radar Systems Division of Alenia Marconi Systems being awarded a contract for Project Hadaf (Air Defence Radars and Communications).
Managed jointly by the Royal Air Force of Oman and Alenia Marconi Systems, the College is a centre of excellence for aircraft controller training. It is equipped with state of the art simulators financed and supplied by Alenia Marconi Systems and is housed in a new, purpose built, facility supplied by the Oman MOD.
An Air Traffic Management Radar Simulator, a 3-D Air Traffic Management Tower Simulator and an Air Defence Simulator, together with classroom facilities provide the means for effective training covering all aspects of Air Traffic Management.
Air Defence Operations Military and Civil Air Traffic Control to ICAO standards Air Dispatcher and Controller Aviation Evaluation and Analysis Aviation English.
Highly experienced staff drawn from the internationally recognised organisations such as ICAO in addition to experienced instructors from the Royal Air Force of Oman will ensure a high standard of training.
The world-class facilities of the College are intended to serve not only the Sultanate of Oman but other GCC countries in the region and further afield.
