NEW YORK---United Industrial Corporation today announced that its AAI Corporation subsidiary has been awarded a $7.5 million contract from the government of Romania for a Shadow 600 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) system.
Under the contract, AAI will produce and provide support for the system's components, including multiple air vehicles, a ground control station, a ground data terminal and other support equipment.
This new program follows AAI's successful completion of a similar contract for the Romanian Air Force in 1999 and continues AAI's momentum in expanding and reinforcing its competitive position in the international UAV marketplace. In September, the Company announced the receipt of a $22 million UAV contract from another international customer.
Richard R. Erkeneff, President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "We are delighted to extend our relationship with the Romanian Government and look forward to this new contract. A key element of United Industrial's strategy has been to build our presence in overseas markets, and we are particularly pleased with the progress we have achieved in our UAV business. Our international contracts are providing a strong complement to our U.S.-based UAV programs, including our $55.5 million Tactical Unmanned Air Vehicle contract for the U.S. Army.''
