AMS Wins Turkish Minesweeper Contract (Jan. 17)

The NAUTIS 3 Combat Management System from Alenia Marconi Systems (AMS) has been contracted for the new minehunters recently chosen by Turkey to be built by the German shipyards consortium of Abeking & Rasmussen and FR Lürssen Werft, in co-operation with Istanbul Naval Shipyard.

The Turkish Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) has selected NAUTIS 3 for fitting to all six of the minehunters. Contract negotiations with the shipyards are completed.

The Contract also included the high fidelity LBTS (Land-Based Training System) being supplied by AMS in support of the Minehunter programme. The LBTS is comprised of a full representation of the Ship's Operations Room, where NAUTIS is located, and a Ship's Bridge terminal, inclusive of Command and Control capability available in the Operations Room.

NAUTIS 3 builds on the success of previous generations of the system, which are in service with nine major navies worldwide. It uses the latest Commercial Off The Shelf hardware and software components to support applications for naval ships including Minehunters, Patrol Vessels, Coastguard Vessels, Corvettes, Frigates and Destroyers

Key features of NAUTIS include:

**NAUTIS 3 software infrastructure supports a wide variety of ship types and roles, with a unique adaptability for Mine Countermeasures in addition to its Anti-Air Warfare, Anti -Surface Warfare, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Naval Gunfire Support and general Naval support capability for all the other types of Naval vessels.

**The system's modular software architecture allows the re-use of existing NAUTIS applications that have been proven in service with major navies worldwide.

**NAUTIS 3 uses the latest COTS technology which enables Alenia Marconi Systems to produce systems which are less expensive, smaller, lighter and easier to use and maintain. · NAUTIS 3 can be easily tailored to meet individual customer requirements, such as the number of operator positions and integration with specific combat system equipment.

**NAUTIS 3 has a distributed open architecture which is ideally suited to reducing the risks inherent in combat system integration. It already supports a wide range of combat system interfaces including the capability for Data Link. New interfaces, to support a particular requirement, can be provided on request.
